Price of convenience

After reading Tom's Hardware Guide's review of Windows XP, I was fascinated by the list of applications that are bundled or incorporated in Windows XP. In the past, you needed to use third-party software, but now Windows XP is a:

  • Instant messenger
  • Digital audio encoder
  • CD burning program
  • CD ripping program
  • Image browser
  • Video player
  • Video editor
  • Remote access
  • Internet browser
  • Email client
  • Firewall
  • Data compression
  • Radio

Sure, it's easier for some of these 'tasks' to be organized in one place, but at what price?
