If you have predictive text entry on your phone sending SMS is actually fairly efficient. Its also convenient in loud or quiet situations when an audible conversation is undesirable.

What's funny is that everywhere else in the world SMS is huge; most people use SMS more than they use the actual "dialing" features of the cell phone. I got suckered into buying a cell phone over the summer while I was on vacation (Nokia 8310) and surprisingly enough I picked up text messaging quick. I'm sure with much more practice you'll start churning out those letters faster than most other people :)

I only use SMS when I know I'm running low on minutes, which is never. It is slow but when you're trapped in an airport with 5 minutes left for the rest of the month it comes in handy...that and the 11 games that T-Mobile gave me with my Samsung.

I miss texting actually, since nobody seems to use it here and I'd gotten quite accustomed to it. If your phone has predictive text, it is pretty easy to get used to and it's SO much easier in loud, crowded situations or when you want to say something but don't feel like making direct contact (a la AIM).
