Spiderman 2
This afternoon I went downtown to visit the Art Institute for my stupid art history class. Despite the stupid paper I have to write, and the stupid comments people make in class, and the stupid book we had to read, I think cubism is okay.
I amused myself in the museum by pretending I was in the videogame Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear. It’s a first-person shooter game where you play the leader of an elite covert-op team. In the first mission, terrorist guerrillas take visitors hostage at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, and you need to sneak around killing stray terrorists with silenced automatic weapons, then use flash-bangs to stun the terrorists guarding hostages. Silenced automatic weapons can make even the dullest trip to the museum an exciting experience.
Then, while walking around the loop, I noticed a film crew. It was a pretty big production with lots of buses and cranes parked along the street. A few steps later, a guy asked me to walk on the other side of the street because they were filming. When I asked what movie, he said Spiderman 2. The setup they had was pretty sweet. Right next to the ‘L’, the had two cranes a block apart. A cable was strung between the cranes, with a camera dangling from the cable. When a train passed, the camera would swoop down along the cable ahead of the train. I guess they were simulating Spiderman swinging through Chicago. Of course, in the Marvel universe, I don’t believe Spiderman goes to Chicago, thank you very much. Unfortunately, I didn’t see anyone famous.
Ok, back to my stupid paper…

ditto on R6 in H house…
it strikes me as a little odd that they filmed the spiderman shot where there are no tall buildings on which he could web sling (attach/stick????). you get the point. why not use the EL downtown, among all those SKYSCRAPERS.

and so i realize the importance of actually understanding what you read, i missed the whole (while in the loop) comment, so i guess the web slinging makes sense. funny german word i learned the other day:
vergangenheitsbewaeltigung = something about deriving worth through the past
