Switch?

The computer lab where I work upgraded all the G4 cubes to OS 10.2 Jaguar.

It is gorgeous. IÕve been using it all day, and IÕm definitely a big fan. Internet Explorer is a little quirky, but Mozilla is supa’ dupa’. And so is AIM.

Here’s my $0.02 about Apple: I think the Switch campaign is annoying and misrepresentative of Windows. In my experience, Mac OS 9 crashed just as much as Windows 9x. Mac OS 10 and Windows XP are both virtually crash-proof (thanks to protected memory and less legacy support), and they are equally usable. (That’s assuming you have a two-button mouse. One button: WTF?).

So instead of just using Windows, why not use both? As an early Christmas present, how about an iBook? (Don’t forget the Airport card.)

So glad you like! Like the metric system, Jaguar’s pretty easy to learn once you stop trying to translate everything in your head.

“The Missing Manual” by O’Reilly is a big help, by the way, IMHO.

But, whatever you do, don’t control-click in IE. Crashy crash. :-)

I’ve been noticing some problems in IE as well (e.g. the control-click, some rendering issues (i.e. When I look at fairvue.com)–restricted solely to IE for Mac (I didn’t have problems using the very same version in Windows). But I completely agree about Mozilla, so far no problems. Have you tried using iChat yet, i’m not sure whether they have it on an institution version of Jaguar but it’s pretty crappy–I tried using AIM but all the messages -to- me seem to pop up in iChat. Weird. The terminal program seems to be pretty spiffy other than the fact you can’t scroll using the up/down keys anymore, I’m sure there’s some kind of fix for it though.

Oh, and the iBook, it’s great :) I say this because I just bought one for this school year, and so far, no problems. However I think I could do with some more RAM (I only have 384 megs). Other than that I recommend the iBook and OS X Jaguar wholeheartedly. :)
