The Future

Update: the new design which I mention is the one you’re currently seeing.

When I recently redesigned ktheory, I used a php template system with the intention of creating multiple templates allowing you to decide the ‘look and feel’ of the site. It’s not working.

I’m currently working on a new system, inspired by Hivelogic. In the end, ktheory will look the same, but underneath the HTML will consist of div and span tags, and the look and feel will reside in style sheets. The design could be changed by clicking a button.

Also, Macromedia’s Dreamweaver MX is awesome. The tabs in the Windows version is a great feature. Now I no longer need to use a seperate text editor with Dreamweaver. Tabs are the way to go.

Ask Ruthie about my design that I did for the Arts Council in all CSS…it’s cross-browser capability is piss-poor. good luck trying to sort it out…you won’t be able to do anything neat without doing a stupid browser check. cross-platform my arse, aaron…

Hivelogic and A List Apart seem to put virtually all markup descriptions in CSS, and leave the HTML as bare-bones as possible. And they don’t do browser checks. I’m trying to follow their model.

Also, the NYPL Online Style Guide is a good resource for CSS layouts.
