New Cats

Saturday, December 29th, 2001

Last November, one of my room mates, a cat lover, found three kittens. Eventually, we gave two to the Humane Society, and kept one. From one perspective, he saved the cat from probably death during the winter, and has ensured that the cat will survive much longer. From another perspective, we imprisoned the cat in […]

Waking Life

Friday, December 28th, 2001

I just saw Waking Life, the acclaimed film directed by Richard Linklater. My next action is to see every film he ever made. Wow, what an interesting film!

The New Computer

Thursday, December 27th, 2001

The new computer has arrived. This makes me very happy indeed.

Merry Christmas

Monday, December 24th, 2001

Merry Christmas everybody!

Tracking the New Computer

Saturday, December 22nd, 2001

I’ve been tracking the new computer.

Adele’s Wisdom Teeth

Wednesday, December 19th, 2001

Adele got her wisdom teeth pulled yesterday, so she’s in a lot of pain. Adding insult to injury, she looks funny too. The Internet hopes she gets well soon. The other night, I saw Spy Game with Adele and some other people. Adele was quite underwhelmed by the film, but I liked it. I like […]

The state of ktheory

Wednesday, December 19th, 2001

The state of ktheoryEarlier this AM, I finished re-tooling and re-designing link.everything. It is powered by the new new thing, Movable Type. The design follows the Nielsen model of placing permanent content on the left, and transient content on the right. The new site also features a fairly comprehensive list of Chicago-based weblogs.
More re-designing is […]

MeFiChi2

Sunday, December 16th, 2001

Jason is organizing a Chicagoland Metafilter user bowling party. It’s scheduled for Saturday, January 12, 8pm at Diversey-River Bowl (more info). There’s a very good chance I’ll be there.

The Spot Diner

Friday, December 14th, 2001

I have gone to the Spot diner the past four nights in a row. That is three nights in a row too many.
Here’s a survey from Dawn:1. Shoes on or off? On. 2. Meat or vegetables? Meat, preferably white.3. Desktop or Notebook? PC Desktop, with dreams of a Latitude C400 laptop.4. Red or green? Red. […]

An unfortunate soul

Wednesday, December 12th, 2001

An unfortunate soulIn high school, I took an IB History of the Americas course, in which I wrote a 1500 word essay about an American history topic of my choice. This essay, called the internal assessment, was a large percentage of the final grade for the course. The topic of mine was American propaganda during […]

Afoot

Wednesday, December 12th, 2001

AfootThere are things afoot at ktheory. I am switching to Movable Type. I’m sick of Blogger having outages. Plus, I’ve played around with Movable Type a little, and I really like some of the features.
Since I’m in Binghamton for winter break, I have to use the family computer, which is three years old and wholly […]

Sweet Release

Saturday, December 8th, 2001

One more quarter of college is done.
I just got back from a party for my friend Tal. HeÕs going to Israel for the next few weeks, and then heÕs spending the winter quarter abroad in Argentina. He seemed a little excited that both countries are in dire conditions, either politically or economically. Anyway, I hope […]

Praying for Sweet Release

Thursday, December 6th, 2001

The end of final exams is in sight. That is all I have time to say, as saying anything else would disrupt my delicate rhythm of intensely focused studying. I am a finely tuned machine for storing theorems and definitions in short-term memory.

M. C. Escher’s Lizards

Wednesday, December 5th, 2001

If I were a work of art, I would be M. C. Escher’s Lizards: “I am a bizarre juxtaposition of the real and the unreal. Based in the realm of mathematics, my two-dimensional appearance belies a complex and free-willed behaviour which both delights and confuses people.”
I think that hits the nail on the head.

Ssome Old Photos

Tuesday, December 4th, 2001

I posted some old photos I found on my hard drive (~200KB).

Instead of writing

Tuesday, December 4th, 2001

Instead of writing a 2000 word paper, maybe I could turn in two pictures instead. The professor would think I’m so clever, punning an adage, that he’ll give me an A. Man, that’d be great.

I’m not too sure

Monday, December 3rd, 2001

I’m not too sure what îlafur çgœstsson thinks of ktheory because I can’t read Swedish. But, using a Swedish-English dictionary, I know that “snilld” translates to “genius”. I think I like îlafur despite the language barrier.
Actually, the page might be in Icelandic, but I can’t find the word “snilld” in any Icelandic dictionaries.

Saves the Day Concert

Monday, December 3rd, 2001

I went to a Saves the Day concert last night with Adele and her friends from Northwestern. It was pretty fun, but I think I would have enjoyed myself more if I had more angst. Lead singer and songwriter Chris Conley writes very depressing and violent lyrics, often fantasizing about mutilating ex-girlfriends. Since Adele […]
